For many decades the historian and the genealogist have moved along parallel paths. Within the last several years, however, their respective fields have been converging. The historians' interest in family history and the social and spatial mobility of population has taken him into groups of records, such as marriage and birth registers, which have traditionally been within the purview of the genealogist. At the same time there has been an increasing sophistication in genealogical research. this guide is intended to serve the needs of both groups.
